The easiest way to begin sending and receiving wavs in pIRCh is to use the default events. Just click on the events tab, and remove the semi-colon from the beginning of the ON NOTICE and ON NOSOUND lines. Make sure these lines point to the correct folder where you will be storing your wavs. By default it is set for C:\PIRCH32. Its best to make a folder just for your wavs they do accumulate rapidly. Check the ENABLED box in the lower right corner of the EVENTS window. (Events covers the correct set ups)
Next you have to make sure your MEDIA is correctly set up in the PREFS window. At the very least, check to enable sounds, and enter the correct path to your wavs folder.
To play wavs, click on the media tab. This will open a media player window. Click on the large down arrow in the right side.
Click on the arrow next to the word
"Uninitialized" and select wavs, midis or all sound files. This will bring up a
list of all available files. Click on play locally to review, or click on the top button
to play to the channel you are in. It is a good idea to review the wav before playing it
to the channel if you are unsure of its content. Some wavs you collect may turn out to be
offensive, or not in good taste. The event to hear wavs after grabbing them helps to keep
up with wavs you may not wish to keep.
You will notice that the media player
can be "rolled-up". This reduces it to a small bar which can be
"rolled-down" when you want to use the player. On occasion you will find that
you cannot roll down the media player. There is a simple fix which will resolve this
problem.
First, exit all channels you may be active in, so
only the server window is open. Next, enter this command on the command line in the server
windows.
/remini c:\windows\pirchutl.ini IrcMediaPlayer
Then completely close down pIRCh and restart. This should fix your problem.
The safest bet is to get in the habit of just closing the media player after each use. You only have to initiate the wav folder the first time its used after opening pirch.
The easiest way to create wav files
in Window 95 is to use the default sound recorder. Usually this can be found in
ACCESSORIES/MULTIMEDIA. You can use a microphone, or dub sounds from a CD. The biggest
problem is keeping the wav size small. Its recommend you use 11025khz and mono mode. Try
not to let your wavs get any larger than 350 kilobytes.
