Oturu School

New Zealand

Year Two and Three

Our class went on camp to Wainui Bay which is on the east coast of New Zealand near the top of the North Island. We stayed in an old school. Some children slept outside in tents and some children slept in the classrooms.

Wainui Bay has a beautiful sandy beach and lots of rocks. We walked around to the next bay across the rocks and we had to go through a cave.

We looked at the creatures in the rock pools and we also learnt about the types of fish that live in the water in this area. A couple of weeks earlier we had been to the aquarium at Paihia and had seen lots of fish.

We learnt about snapper, stingrays, eels, blue maumau, porcupine fish, crayfish, seahorses and octopus.

When we got back to school after the camp, we did lots of pictures about fish. We did pencil sketches, crayon and dye pictures and PVA prints. We also wrote stories and poems about the camp.

Here is our work for the Rocky Shore Project.
