Mrs Silverman's Class

Today our class visited the Rocky Shore website. We read the wonderful sea poems. These poems inspired us to write and illustrate some of our own.

We are looking forward to studying the rocky shore and visiting it sometime in June.

The Rocky Shore

By Mrs. Silverman's Second Grade Class

Rocks in our wardrobe

Rocks in your hair

Rocks out the door

Rocks are everywhere

If you see a rock you know they are real

And you know they don't feel

Like a banana peel

By James W.

By Kaitlyn.

Sand in my mouth

Sand in my house

Sand between my toes

Sand at my nose

Starfish on big rocks

I look a the sea

And I am the happiest

I could be

By Alyssa R.

Sand gets in your eyes

Sand gets in your hair

Sand even gets in your fries

Starfish on rocks

Starfish by the sand

Starfish not on blocks

I love the rocky shore

I wish I could learn more

I wish I could talk to a mermaid

She would whisper in my ear softly

We would sing together

We could play together forever

Then she would teach me about the rocky shore

I love the rocky shore because she taught me about it

By Jamie S.

Waves

Big waves

Small waves

Waves in my bathing suit

Gigantic waves

Long Waves

By K.J.

Sand in your sandals

Sand in your socks

Sand everywhere

Even in your clocks.

Sand in your sandwiches

Sand in your smocks

Sand everywhere

Even in your locks

By Alex G.

By Nicole.

Rocky shore is rocky

I get pebbles in my food

At the rocky shore when I eat my sandwiches

Yuck, pebbles

I get pebbles everywhere

In my food and on me

The rocky shore is fun

And rocky and messy

By Kaitlyn

By Charlayna.

Sand in my shoes

Sand in my big, big ears

And more sand in my pears

Sand in my hair

Sand everywhere

Sand on my sister

Sand on my blister

By Charlayna R.

Sand in my sandals

Sand in my bed

Sand in my head

Sand in my hair

Sand everywhere

By Aleisha O.

Rocks at the bottom of the sea

It would be nice if they were all for me

Rocks are cool

They are in your pool

By Morgan B.

Mermaids in the water

Mermaids in the sea

Mermaids always whisper to me

Holding my hand when I swim

The mermaid said, "Hi, my name is Kim."

Mrs Silverman's class learned about horseshoe crabs.

They are so fascinating. It is amazing to see animals that are around today that were here before dinosaurs. Did you know that they are called "Living Fossils?" This is because they were here before the dinosaurs. These horseshoe crabs are so interesting that Mrs Silverman's class decided to interview them.

When Mrs. Silverman went home she couldn't resist a walk to the rocky beach to see these amazing creatures. It is springtime on Long Island, New York, and the horseshoe crabs are mating. These photos were taken at Cordwood Beach, Long Island, New York.
