OTHER INTRIGUING FACTS:
Lindsey and both his brothers were always encouraged to swim
competitively. However, only Greg Buckingham hit it big in the sport. He
won a silver medal in swimming at the 1968 Olympics, held in Mexico City.
Lindsey does not use a pick. He plays finger-style, as is
characteristic of folk and bluegrass.
In high school, Lindsey and a few friends (including Stevie
Nicks) formed a band called the Fritz Rabyne Memorial Band. Lindsey primarily
played bass for the group. During its run, Fritz opened for big names like
Santana, Janis Joplin, and even Jimi Hendrix.
Buckingham Nicks, their first recording effort,
bombed. It was quickly dropped by the label.
Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac at the end of 1974, but only
on the condition that his then-girlfriend (Stevie Nicks) could be join as well.
For approximately eight years, Lindsey was working steadily
on a new solo album entitled A Gift of Screws. But due to problems in
getting the album picked up and released by a label, he ended up submitting most
of that material to Say You Will - under the Fleetwood Mac name. Because
with Fleetwood Mac he would sell albums, but as a solo artist he would not.
