Jordan's JDMS Diary

April 1999

Thursday - Apr 1
I stayed home with Jordan today. She isn't having a good time. She hurts more and cant seem to get comfortable. It's spread more under her arm and across her back and chest. The poor little girl is just feeling miserable.
Friday - Apr 2
We reduced her Prelone to 1/2ml this morning. I'm so glad we've made it this far with no major problems. She felt a little better today. I managed to clean some neglected cabinets and drawers while she watched a movie. We played dominos a few times throughout the day. She made confetti eggs. Jennifer surprised her by bringing home a little black bunny. One of my students brought it to the beauty school for her. That kept her entertained. Don't know what we need a bunny for! She gave her guinea pig away so we'll see how long this lasts. Her blisters dont look any better, but she kept busy and the pain wasn't as bad. I'm not sure if we will make it home for Easter or not. We'll have to see how she feels.
Saturday - Apr 3
Jordan had a pretty good day. She complained a little more than yesterday but only at times. When she was occupied she seemed to be happier. We usually go to my mothers and my in-laws for Easter, but we decided not too this year because my youngest brother has two little boys that havent yet had chicken pox. We usually have an egg hunt and even though Jordan is almost 11, she joins in the fun with the little ones. Since we werent going home, I thought we'd probably not have an egg hunt. I was wrong. Jordan dug out the Easter box in the storeroom and had Jennifer buy candy. Right before she headed for bed, she handed me the eggs and candy and said to "surprise" her. hahahah........
Sunday - Apr 4
Joey and Tammy came over about 1:00 and we fixed fajitas at Joey's request. After we ate, we had the Easter egg hunt for Jordan. She just couldn't wait. From the moment she woke up she began asking what time were we having it. To encourage Jenn and Joey to hunt, we put a $20.00 bill in one of the eggs. I got to video all of my children one more year hunting Easter eggs. hehe We gave each of the a box of malted eggs and a stuffed Easster bunny. Jordan even brought her real bunny out and played with it in the yard a while. It couldnt have been more than 45 minutes after the egg hunt, she began complaining. Her rash looks much worse today and we had a hard time making her comfortable the rest of the day and evening. She finally fell asleep about 9:00. I'm calling Dr. C tomorrow to see what else we can do for her. I did find that Emla can be used to help deaden the pain. We have some, so I may try it if needed tomorrow. I also need to find out when she can return to school. She can hardly stand clothing. When there is no one around but us, she runs around without a shirt or one of my silk gowns. The rash looks so bad, I know she must be hurting. I read where the pain can last as long as a year! I hope she heals fast. Its hard to see my baby in pain.

We hope everyone had a wonderful Easter and took the time to remember the reason for the celebration. We know for a fact, our Lord is here for each of us.

Monday - Apr 5
Jodans feel pretty bad. She didnt sleep at all last night. She cant get comfortable. The pain seems unbearable. We took her back to Dr. L (our family physician). He prescribed Claritin Reditabs(one in the morning and one at night)and Benadryl through the day as need. He also said to give her 2 tsp of Tylenol with Codine every 4 hours. Basically, we are going to keep her sleeping to help her pain. He said we should try Benadryl cream on the rash. Our only other option would be to admit her into the hospital and give the Acyclovir by IV. She wasnt enthused about that.
Tuesday - Apr 6
Her shingles still look really bad but she did sleep better. I called Dr. C to get his thoughts. He decided to increase the Acyclovir to 600mgs 5 times a day. He wants her to take it a total of 10 days, beginning with her first 400mg dose. She has a satellite spot about 2 inches beneath the 4 inch patch on her back. We are hoping that its not beginning on another nerve. I hope this goes away soon. This confinement is getting to all of us.
Wednesday - Apr 7
We had a much better day. She didnt complain as bad as she had been. She rode with me to her school to pick up her homework. Then we went to the lab to have her lab work done. I called to see when the slowest time to come in was, to hopefully prevent infecting others. While we were checking in, a little boy about 3 walked in. I told the mother that Jordan could give him chicken pox, and she decided to wait outside. The lab tech then offered to come to the van to take Jordan blood. She was a very nice young lady and calmed Jordan by her cheerful disposition. After it was over, Jordan was ready to go home. Later in the evening, she spent some time outside with Jennifer. They had the stereo playing and seem to have a nice time together. (a rare occassion lately)
Thursday - Apr 8
Jordan is feeling very good today. Her rash seems to have lightened in color and the itching isnt quite so bad. Hopefully the worst is over.

We are all so tired from the last few weeks of work. Jordan wanted to go with me (Im chapparoning)so bad. I dont think Jen would be very happy about her being there. Joe brought me some last minute things so Jordan got to come in a see everyone. Everything turned out very nicely. We cleaned up until about 3:00a.m.

Monday - Apr 26
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AUNT PAT!!!

We saw Dr. C today and he continues to be pleased with her progress. There really isnt anything she cannot do. We are finally off of the Prelone! Thanks goodness! We have one less thing to worry so much about. He did prescribe Zonalon cream for her singles rash. He said it had run its course even though the rash is still present. It hasnt bothered her much lately but she does complain of itching when she gets hot. The cream should help but he said it may make her sleepy.

Jordan went to girls scouts and we got beautiful pictures of the "Me & My Guy" night. They look so good! She made an adorable little 50's gal, if I say so myself.

Friday - Apr 30
Jordan is complaining a bit more about her Shingles rash. She scratches it at night and it seems to be getting worse.
