1. Read to your child every day, no matter how young or how old your child is. |
2. With young children, point to the words as you read them and
let your child point too. This is
called tracking. |
3. Let your child help select the books you read together. It's fine to read a favorite many times. |
4. Ask your child a few questions about the story you are reading;
or have your child tell the story
the story back to you. |
5. Give books as holiday gifts in addition to toys. |
6. If your child brings a book to you, take the time to sit down
and read together even if you can
do only part of the story. |
7. Let your child see you reading. He or she will learn
that books are important to everyone at
every age. |
