Read Aloud and Read Together

1.  Read to your child every day, no matter how young or how old your child is.
2.  With young children, point to the words as you read them and let your child point too. This is
     called tracking.
3.  Let your child help select the books you read together.  It's fine to read a favorite many times.
4.  Ask your child a few questions about the story you are reading; or have your child tell the story
     the story back to you.
5.  Give books as holiday gifts in addition to toys.
6.  If your child brings a book to you, take the time to sit down and read together even if you can
do only part of the story.
7.  Let your child see you reading.  He or she will learn that books are important to everyone at
     every age.
