I Met The Donnas!! (Really!!)

First, I must apologize sincerly about the gushing... it's just; meeting these 50ft. heros was quite an experience that still gives me goosebumps to reminess about. My brother Jeff had told me that you always meet the bands that you love, unless they're dead of course, and he told me that my encounter with The Donnas was just a wait away. I wanted to believe it so bad and would DREAM about it. How they would either hate me or love me, how they would be impatient with my starry eyes or pleased with my fandom... but those were the things only dreams were made of...

The date was March 3, 2k. The night is a blur- but a vivid one. I can't rely on my memory to cherish every moment or word exchanged, but my heart does. I was buzzing around like a little bumblebee after The Donnas rockin' show, just hoping to get a glimpse of them. The air was still a little moist from the terrible rain we had persisted through on our way there and cars whirred by rushing off to their homes, to get laid, to do their drugs, to party somewhere else all night ... but probably most innocently; to sleep. I waited... and waited. Donna fan after Donna fan began filtering out of the Hollywood streets and into their cozy homes, but me, my friends, my faithful brother Matt and this cool guy named Jesse that we met there endured the almost-freezing weather just to see but one Donna.

Suddenly out of the corner of my eye, I saw Donna F!!!! She was standing in the street on the side of The Roxy (the club they played that night) relishing in her 21dom and drinking a beer. She was making small talk with some guys and laughing and having a nice time. I almost refrained from ruining this, but as a fan, I couldn't help myself. I said hi to her after telling everyone else around me that it was her, and she smiled and put on her charm for me and my friend Eric. Eric asked her if she'd mind taking a picture with yours truly and she replied with a cheery "Sure, no problem!". I was delighted. She slipped a friendly arm around me as we posed for the precious picture that now is sacred to me. *SNAP*! Since I was so overwhelmed to speak, Tim told her that I had a Donnas webpage. She seemed really interested and proceeded to give me some personal information about herself so that she could see it. I was flabbergasted and amazed at the event, and delightfully took to what she was saying, absorbing everything she said like the best sponge on the market. I soon decided that I should leave her be and begin again Donna searching, so I bid her farewell and left other Donna fans to basque in her glory, as my time was well overdue. I saw her a lot that night and it made me so happy inside that I wanted to cry. I wonder if she knew how much it meant to me... and that's how I met Donna F.

With glee, I ran back to the front of the Roxy doors, joining my Donna Army that I arrived with (and met) at the show. It was a tough walk between the tightly knit crowd as I made my way through, when I saw cameras goin' off and Eric unabashedly brandishing his hand over his head. As I got closer and closer and my excitement rose, there in the Roxy doors stood Donna A., signing autographs and being the rock star that she is. Her appearance couldn't have made my day more, but just when Eric was about to ask her if she'd take a picture with me, someone called her from inside the Roxy - probably the roadies calling her to help load the equipment. But Eric called after her anyway... "Brett! Would you mind taking a picture with my friend, Ginger?" She looked around and saw my grinning face and excited eyes - how could she mistake my beaming? She looked behind her into the Roxy and back over to me... the dilhemma in her head must have been between responsibility and making a fan estatic. And guess what? She smiled and replied, "Sure!". Donna A. welcomly put her arm around me and mooshed our faces together, taking a wonderful picture with me, warming my heart, making my night, and ultimatley proving to me that her fans mean the world to her. After the photo was snapped and my beaming intensified, I gushed 'thank you's, and she slipped away as I stood there beside myself; representing Ginger, one of the few lucky fans of the night who was blessed as a priority. Donna A., if you're reading this, thank you for making me feel so special. I'll never forget that.

The night was getting colder as my Donnas antics claimed me. I poked my head around seeking a Donna, but to no avail. That is - until my brother, Matt reported that Donna C. was around the corner talking to a few fans. I grinned and peeked around the corner. Sure enough, there she stood, making small talk with some deluded fans and watching her roadies roll her drums by into the van and occasionally interjecting with "Are you SURE you don't need my help??". So me and my clan approached her. She greeted us with a smile and a few of the stragglers with us took their pictures w/her and sifted off. It was just the six of us left. Striking up conversation and handing uot autographs, Donna C. contributed the best conversation I've had in a long time. She was a charm to talk to - and commented on how I was a Madonna fan, and how much she appreciated that. (Note the picture of me and her - the pin and the necklance I'm wearing are both of Madonna.) She proceeded to show me HER tribute to Peter Criss of KISS fame, and showed the necklace she wore around her neck "When I can FIND it!" of Peter's makeup. I asked her random things, and she answered them, as well as the people I was with - as my friend Matt took pictures with her. Donna A. swung by soon after, and added a few words to our conversation. Thinking back on it, she probably felt mobbed by crazy fans - but it didn't seem like that at the time!! Donna F. and Donna R. remained in their van and watched Donna C. socialize with us - it must've been quite a sight. Soon she took her picture with me, and after about a 20 minute conversation and a lot of answers and new questions, The Donnas had to leave. So she bid us farewell, as did Donna A., and they hopped in their van and departed for Arizona, where their next show was scheduled. Donna C. was an angel to me, and her conversation made me even MORE proud to be a Donnas fan than I already was. Thank you, Donna C., for making my Donna fandom worth it. =).

And where's Donna R., you ask? I did see her a few times that night - but never got the chance to talk to her. She was probably upset because this scary JERK (if you're reading this, you creepo, get the HECK off of my website!!) jumped on the stage that night and almost knocked her over. The Donnas had to start Well Done all over again! And later, he climbed up the window to their dressing room, as Donna C. told us later. So I don't blame her for hiding out; I know I would! Even though I didn't get to meet her that night - she's made up for that beyond MEASURES. And in that alone, thank you Donna R., for making me feel appreciated as a DONNAholic. Words cannot express how much it means to me! =).

So, the night I met The Donnas was a wonderful one. Each did something separatly wonderful for me, which means that they love their fans so. If you've never met The Donnas, I hope one day you will get the chance to. They are not only the sweetest girls ever, but they make any question you had to yourself about being crazily obsessed with a band waft away in an instant. Because of my experience with them, I was able to devote my eternal love and fandom to The Donnas, and make this page - and try and spread the Donnalove - for fans all over the world to unite, and pay homeage to their muses.

The Donnas, I love you!!!
