The Unity Candle
The lighting of the Unity Candle during the wedding ceremony is one of the most beautiful Christian traditions that is observed today. The large candle in the center called The Unity Candle is also known as the Christ Candle. It is a symbol of the bride and groom - once seroarate entities, now coming together as one in Christ. The Unity Candelbra holds three candles. The outer two may be lite by the ushers during the candlelighting. Another special touch is to have the mothers, fathers or both parents join together to light the candle that represents their child as a symbol of the union of two families. At the designated time in the ceremony, the bride and groom each take one of the outer candles and together light the middle candle, after which the outer candles are extinguished by the bride and groom. A special blessing that can be read by the officiant, parent or friend during the Unity Candle lighting in Jeremiah 32: 38-40.
"I Pray that as (bride/groom) covenant one to another to begin their marriage with Christ as the Center, that God will bless their marriage with His own words found in Jer 32: 38-40."
They shall be My people, and I will be their God; then I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear Me forever, for the good of them and their children after them. And I will make an everlasting covennt with them, that I will not turn away from doing them good~ but I will put My fear in their hearts so that they will not depart from Me"
Another Christian tradition is for the bride to carry a bible under her flowers. Both names can be engraved on the Bible or the bride can choose to have her new name engraved on the bible. This bible wil1 remind you that it is the Word of God that will keep your marriage together even in time, of trials and temptations. A Christian marriage is like a triangle. The closer the husband and wife drawto God the closer they become.
