Team E-mail #3

Hi FEET 2 BEAT MS Team Member!

To all 173 of you, THANK YOU for signing up to be a part of our team.  Tonight, there are 173 of you signed up on our team and you have already raised $2,470.  See link - http://main.nationalmssociety.org/site/TR?company_id=29674&pg=national_company

I get an e-mail each time a new member signs up.  In Maryland, the Chapter informed me that our team is the largest and we recruited the most members in January.  We really do appreciate each of you doing your part to make this team have an impact in the MS cause.

So, here comes a lot of information and good news to share…

Thank you goes to a bunch of people for helping get us off to a great start…

Team Member Ryan Ledger – who is Mr. “Webmaster” with no formal training

Check out our site www.oocities.org/FEET2BEATMS - click the LOGO

E-mail him pictures or any problems you encounter with the site at FEET2BEATMS@yahoo.com

Team Member Leslie Tolley – a behind-the-scenes person who is getting volunteers for    the Cambridge Walk, starting a fundraising drive selling paper “feet” in the schools between honor societies

Team Member Bob Murphy – sitting on the Cambridge Walk Committee (new this year - committee of 5 including Julie and I), securing breakfast, sponsors, etc, etc

Team Member Tammy Shockley-Sherrill – recruiting all her MOPS friends and helping us hit 100 members on the Cambridge Team

Team Member Cathy Radcliffe – ok, this one not only recruits for her Annapolis, MD team, she means business when it comes to fundraising – see that link above on the national page.

Team Captains – in 6 states who are recruiting the people, putting their name, time, and $$ to help us.  I asked these people because they are work hard, play hard kind of people.  Here is a picture from the Team Captain’s Rally held at the MD Chapter Office in Owings Mills, MD.  These are most of our team captains (and their helpers!)

Back Row – Cathy Radcliffe, Ryan Ledger, Rich Ronayne, Julie Ledger, Larry Rufai, Karen Fox, Kevin Fox

Front Row – Me, Shelby Ledger, Steve Snyder

Team Captain Mike Staicer – Starting the Columbia, MD team recently

Team Member Karri Todd – our first Bike MS Team Captain - biking in Virginia

Team Member Marybeth Glessner – for introducing me to Facebook.  Now I know what the rest of the world is doing in life.  An iPod and Facebook this month – I better slow down.

Many of you have contacted me asking, “What can I do?”

Here is what you can do:

1)      If you haven’t registered your friends and family, do it now! Get the word out that you are participating in a great cause and see if they will join us, or at least sponsor you.  If they walked last year, they have to register again this year.  Our goal is 500 members – we are almost half way there.

2)      Ask your employer to sponsor you (a lot offer matching contributions). Or, they can donate a gift certificate so that we can use that as prizes for our members

3)      Think outside the box – who would be interested and what can they give in their own way – church, schools, businesses, community leaders, etc.  It means so much coming from someone they know rather than me.

4)      Collect pledges – you will get a pledge sheet and envelope in the mail (you can actually print the pledge sheets off the internet – click on Fundraising button in your participant page).  If you send in $$ before the walk, make sure you put YOUR NAME AND TEAM NAME on the envelope.  Why send them in before the walk?  Because we get to see how everyone is doing as we go instead of waiting the day of the walk.

5)      Hats – Tammy’s MOPS group came up with the idea to wear hats in addition to our team shirt to identify groups of people within our team at the walk.  We have people from many interesting groups and employers on our team, so start thinking about a hat to wear the day of the walk.

6)      Team Prizes – this year we are not doing any event after the walk.  So, if you have a prize you can donate to the team as a fundraising incentive, please get in touch with me so I can incorporate that into “the plan”.  Ideas – tickets, frequent flier miles, hotel points, certificates, you know…the stuff you want!

Stay tuned…you know I have more…

Again, thank you.  We have just about 2 months before most of the walks (Some are walking March 1st in Fort Lauderdale).  Keep the momentum going!  The primary goal is still to continue to recruit members - 300 by end of February.  If anyone has trouble signing up, give me a call with their name, address, phone number, e-mail address, Date of Birth, and T-shirt size and I'll sign them up.  I've gotten a lot of practice.  Tomorrow, see if you can find a co-worker to join us.
