How Children View Thanksgivng
This article was in our local newspaper. Children in Kindergarden , 1st grade, and 2nd grades were picked at random and asked the same questions, the child did not have time to think about the questions, so the answer was the first thing that came to their mind.

Sierra a 5 year old in Kindergarden. She knows that Thanksgiving is a celebration but wasn't sure what for. She did know however that they will be eating turkey and will probably have dinner at home with her brother, 12 and her sister, 4 being there. She said she was thankful for all the food.
Cassie is a 5 year old in kindergarden. She has one brother who is 4.
She said she hoped to have dinner at her grandma's house for Thanksgiving. Cassie is thankful for God, for people, especially friends, houses, Mommy and Daddy, trees, clothes, boots, shoes, and many other things.
Lisa is 5 years old and in kindergarden. She has a baby sister who is 5 months old. She said Thanksgiving is when we celebrate, don't know for sure why. They eat turkey at Grandma and Grandpa's house. They also have also have mashed potatoes, and salad or something. Lisa is thankful for friends, food, and things that fly in the sky, like birds and eagles, God, Grandma and Grandpa, Mommy and Daddy, Courtney, and myself.
Michael is 6 years old and in 1st grade. He has one sister 20 years old. Thanksgivng is a place where all the people in the family get together and celebrate. He will proably eat dinner at Grandma's house and will have turkey, sometimes applesauce, bread and jelly, potatoes and pumpkin pie. When asked if he would like something else at the meal he said yes cereal. He was thankful for both Grandmas and Grandpas, Dad and Mom and his sister.
Kristin is 61/2 and in 1st grade. Thanksgiving means me and my family, because the rest of our family can't come to our house for turkey. We will have Mom and Dad, my two cats and our dog. Kristin is thankful for a very nice family.
Jacob is 6 years old and in 1st grade. He has one brother. Thanksgiving is when we catch turkeys, roasts them, and then eat them. He will probably have dinner at his aunt's house and his Grandma's house. They will have turkey, mashed potstoes, gravy, but couldn't think of anything else. He is thankful for the animals in his family, for aunts and uncles, Grandma and Grandpa, Mom and Dad. His family means a great deal to him.
Luke is 7 and in the 2nd grade. He has one sister who is 5. He said Thanksgiving was the day when Indians saw a ship and Squanto told the people that there was a white man's ship. He then went to tell the chief, who said that we will invite them to a feast. That started Thanksgiving. His dinner will probably include stuffed turkey, apples, cranberry sauce, bread, jelly, corn-on-the-cob and pecan pie. Luke was thankful for his own bedroom, for a nice house, and the world.
Debra is also 7 years old and in 2nd grade. She has one brother. She will have dinner at Aunt Becky's house and her grandma and cousins will be there. They would have the usual food but didn't know if they would have any pie. She was thankful for her parents, family, her dog Spook, and her cat Sassy.
Whitney is 7 years old and in 2nd grade. She has two sisters 12 and 10 years old. Thanksgiving is something you celebrate and you celebrate Indians and Piligrims. She will get together and have turkey with her Grandparents, Mom and Dad and her sisters. They will have turkey, stuffing, corn, and cherry pie. She was thankful for the Indians, Piligrims, and that the Indians gave the Piligrims food and thankful that we celebrate. She was also thankful for parents and her sisters.
