Rowan Atkinson
The Man Behind the Bean

Rowan Atkinson has become a hero to many by writing and starring in several critically acclaimed television series and movies. Although most noted for his role as Mr. Bean in the appropriately titled series and recent big screen movie, his writing/acting career has also included "The Thin Blue Line" and "Blackadder" and sequels.

Rowan was born on January 8, 1956 in Durham, England. He was accused by schoolmates as a child of being and "alien from outer space". As a way of humoring them, he was "beamed down" on the theme of "Mr. Bean". Science was his main intrest in school, and he attended Oxford University on an electrical engineering degree. Rowan spent sveral years as a "car guy" - something like the British equivalent of Tim Taylor from "Home Improvement", but without the kids. Shortly after "Mr. Bean" was first aired on New Year's Eve, 1989, it became the top rated show in Britain. Not too bad for and "alien", huh?
