John Henry Griffin Sr. was born November 14, 1917 in Waverly Hall, Georgia. He was born to John Wesley Griffin and Willard Lowe Griffin, both of whom preceded him in death.
He received his formal education in the public schools of North Carolina. John Henry was semi-retired, but worked part-time at Sonny's Amoco Station in Washington, D.C.
John Henry accepted Christ at an early age in North Carolina and after relocating to Washington, D.C., attended several churches. In the later years, he joined the Evangel Church in Washington D.C. The church now is located in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, where he was a faithful member until his demise.
John Henry was united in holy matrimony to Bessie J. Walton Griffin, and God blessed this union with two children: John Henry Jr. and Patricia Ann. Bessie preceded him in death.
Suddenly on Thursday, June 25, 1998, our Heavenly Father called John Henry to a peaceful rest at his residence in Washington, D.C.
