Happy New Years

St. Patrick's real name was Maewyn, and he was born in the village of Wales in 385.

At 16, a group of raiders, destroyed his village and sold Maewyn into slavery. He was a slave for 6 years until he escaped, and then he went to Gaul to study in the monestary.

He adopted the name Patrick, and was the second bishop to be sent to Ireland to convert the druids to Christianity. He always used a shamrock to demonstrate the holy trinity to the druids. Patrick helped to convert the druids for more than 30 years and then retired to County Down.

St. Patricks day, March 17th, is the day that Patrick died in 461.

The first record of St. Patricks being celebrated in America, is in Boston in 1737.
