Fans of Anne of Green Gables will love this collection of books! This five book series is based on the Sullivan Films/PBS productions adapted from the novels of Lucy Maud Montgomery. Even if you have never seen the PBS productions that these books are based on, you will still enjoy the books immensely!
The Road to Avonlea books are more like novelettes, that read very easily. The story is set mostly on Prince Edward Island some years after Anne Shirley had lived on the island, loosely set around the turn of the century.
The main character, Sarah Stanley, will remind readers of Anne Shirley as the story follows her adventures on the island where she is sent by her widower father for safekeeping while he ammends financial disaster in his life back in Montreal. On Prince Edward Island, Sarah finds the simple country life of her relatives and the other people she meets much different from her pampered life in Montreal. While at first having a time of it fitting in amongst the Avonlea crowd, Sarah charms her way into the lives and hearts of everyone!
Fans of Anne of Green Gables will enjoy seeing some familiar characters like Marilla Cuthbert, and Rachel Lynde amongst some new characters not discovered in Avonlea from the Anne of Green Gables books! True to the style of L. M. Montgomerey, the Road to Avonlea series reminds the reader of the simplicity and wonder of life and the adventure one can have with just their imagination!
