Tired of sappy romantic books, yet like to read about real life relationships ? Then Driving Lessons is the book for you! My husband bought this book for me out of the Christian Book Distributors catalog. See, he thought that I needed to read just for the fun of it, and that I would be interested in this book. Well, I was hesitant. I never really cared for romance books even as a young girl, so when I found out this book had a male and female main characters I thought "Sappy!". But I picked up the book and gave it a chance. What did I have to lose, except for maybe the one evening I would spend in trying out the book?!?
Well, I was pleasantly suprised! This book covers the adventures of two cross-country travelers, Nancy and Mark, and the relationship that builds between them along the way. The author, William Kritlow, spends time really developing Nancy and Mark as individuals before he unfolds their building relationship. The book has a depth beyond any "romance" book I have ever seen as throughout the book there is a strong thread of the hope of the Gospel and the need for Christ in everyone's life!
This book was in no way just another "sappy romance". I don't really even think "romance" can be used to describe it! It simply presented how God can build relationships and make significant changes, starting with salvation and beyond, in a person's life who is willing to take an honest look at themselves! I really enjoyed this book, and recommend it to anyone...male or female!!
