The third book in The Prydain Chronicles again takes a new course from the previous book. This one has the Companions struggling again against evil, but it comes from a different source than Annuvin. Also, this story weaves in the heartwarming beginnings of romance.
The romantic facet is a very welcomed side of the story for those who have travelled with the companions since The Book of Three. And there are times when the feeling that your heart will overflow with impatience comes upon you, as you watch Taran reconcile himself with his true feelings for Eilonwy. Which is something that which he barely understands, yet seems to know deep inside.
The setting for The Castle of Llyr is also different than the previous two novels which adds to the joy of reading this book. Also, the pace of this book is very fast. You find yourself swept along with the action which leads to a very climactic ending. When you finally turn the last page, you can hardly wait until you pick up the fourth book in the Chronicles. But in the fourth book, you are in for yet another taste of this glorious tale.
