We've set up yet another way to get archive copies of the
LightRaider NET. We won't promise that it is faster than
the other method we were trying, but it is easier for us to
keep it up-to-date. Also it will mean the most recent issue
is available as so as we get it out. Also we don't know
how long we will have the other account open.

This method is simply to send an email to
cass@alaska.net with the Subject of LRNET007 or
LRNET008. No message is needed. It may take a day
even as we have to login with THE computer and check
mail etc. for it to happen.

A DRAGONRAID MYSTERY DINNER
  --by Jill Oviatt jillo@pobox.alaska.net

For an evening of fun and fellowship, why not host a
DragonRaid Mystery Dinner? That's just what the Alaska
group (consisting of all 9th grade boys and one 6th grader,
my son) did on the evening of January 3, 1997. What a
way to kick off the new year! Kudos go to Steve and his
lovely and capable wife Bonnie for dreaming up and then
implementing the whole affair. (however, I brought the
garlic bread!) What a team!

Let me give you some idea as to the goings on.... There
were eight playing characters, none of them knew each
other, nor were to they reveal their identities other than
their names; consequently they did not know if the fellow
sitting next to them was a TwiceBorn or a dragon slave.

Each of the travellers has arrived separately, but have
now joined together for an evening meal at the Inn of
Forsaken Souls. The innkeeper (Steve) serves drinks and
suggests each person introduce themselves and say a bit
about themselves so that each may feel more friendly
toward one other.

As soon as the introductions are complete, but before the
dinner is served, a Dragon's Messenger (also Steve--he
wore 2 hats that night) bursts into the Inn. "Recently, in
the Hills of Bane, an artifact has been uncovered which is
regarded as a valuable spiritual relic both to the dragons
and the TwiceBorn. The artifact was being transported
from the Hills of Bane to the Hoard of the Beautiful
Dragon. Now it is missing. It was last seen in this inn."

Suddeenly the Dragon's Investigator (me--well, I _was_ all
inblack;->) sweeps in upon the scene, stating that he is
there to investigate the artifact's disappearance. No one
is to leave the inn, he says, until they have discovered
who the thief is. The travellers are then told that they will
die if they don't deliver the artifact and the thief by the
next morning.

Then the mystery was afoot....the guys really got into their
roles and did quite well on the cross-examinations that
ensued. A couple of them had ideas that one or another
might be a LightRaider, but no one was too sure until the
end.

It was a great evening and even though Steve and
Bonnie didn't feel they gave themselves enough time in
the planning stages, we all really enjoyed ourselves.
Where there's a will, there's a way! In fact, another
mystery dinner is being planned for February, which we all
are looking forward to. If any of our readers would like to
try hosting a dinner, Steve would be more than happy to
assist you in finding cool inn descriprions and stories; he is
quite imaginative if you haven't noticed already!

documents. Contact cass@alaska.net if you need
something different. We hope to convert them to html
soon.

WR #51 Puffed-up Poof
  --by David Staley staley@en.com

WR #51:
Puffed-up Poof
1 Corinthians 8:1 - We know that we all possess
knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.

This is a very powerful WordRune(WR) to have
memorized! Literally every LightRaider(LR) should have
this WR memorized! You need a rating of LO 2 to say it,
but those with a LO 1 can easily recite the Love
Command WR #17 to gain +2 LO for one encounter. So
no excuse (unless you like your LR crispy)!

When a LR is confronted with the mind speech of a
Dragon, and the LR says the Puffed-up Poof WR, the
Dragon will take 5 pride points of damage AND the
dragon's spirit will be dampened so much that the LR may
use another WR before the Dragon recovers! That is
powerful!

But more than the effects the WR has in EdenAgain, the
words of this portion of Scripture are important for us in the
real world. I have always pondered this verse when I read
it, but never really thought about it in depth, until now.

Here are my thoughts as I read this verse:

We know that we all possess knowledge. (I understand
this for it is a very simple sentence. Unless you are a
piece of wood you possess some amount of knowledge.
Whether it is useful knowledge is not the point, it is
knowledge nonetheless.)

Knowledge puff up, but love builds up. (It kind of reminds
me of "faith without works is dead". You can sit and read
and 'puff' yourself up, but that does nothing in and of itself.
It does give you resources that 'could' be useful, but
simply accumulating knowledge is a dead end street. On
the other hand, taking the knowledge you have acquired
and sharing it, giving it, not claiming it as your own, and
expressing it in love is where it begins to build up. As it is
said, "it is better to give, than receive")

You could read both these individually and say, "yes, yes,
very true", but when you put them together the truth in
them points to us. This confrontation makes us ask
ourselves, "is my knowledge self-directed or other-
directed". A bumper sticker phrase for this could
be "Does my knowledge puff or buff?" Am I simply
inflating my knowledge in the pursuit to know more, or do I
allow what I learn and know to edify an build others up?

In regards to the world of EdenAgain, when this WR is
recited, the Dragon's spirit is dampened greatly. I believe
that this is because the Dragon is confronted with the
truth that its mind speech is simply knowledge that puffs
up.

It is interesting that LO is the ability that gets the MU and
not KN. I think that this is because the knowledge the LR
uses in reciting the WR isn't a self serving knowledge, but
it is to use the LR's knowledge to take a stand for the
truth and to expose the falsehood of the mind speech. It
is the LR's love for the OLMN and the truth that is credited
when they memorize this WR perfectly and expose the
mind speech for what it is.

I know that when I memorize scripture or study Church
history or anything for that matter, I need to be on guard. I
need to make sure that I do not use the knowledge that I
gain for self serving purposes. And when confronting
falsehoods or even in discussing topics with fellow
believers, it is easy for me to want to get into a knowledge
battle and prove that I am right (even when I am not). I
have enough knowledge to know that I do not have all
knowledge, and that I need work and help in sharing my
knowledge in love and learning when to stop 'sharing'
when I am actually not.

  In Christ,
  David Staley

And speaking of DragonRaid Resources Page...

DragonRaid Resources Page

Rich Sezov says:
"I have set up a DragonRaid resources page off of my
web site at
http://www.voicenet.com/~sezovr/draidres.html. I've got
part of an Adventure Master's screen there, but I hope
eventually to be able to post adventures and other
supplemental material there as well."

"Does anybody have any material they have worked up
for DragonRaid that I could post on this page? I will give
proper credit to the authors of DragonRaid material. "

The Unofficial DragonRaid Web site has been threatening
for some time to also do a page similar to Rich's. Charlie
has been scouring through Steve's notes to create some
pages. Here's a descriptions of the beginnings:

The Sorcerer's Apprentice Rescue (1)
http://www.alaska.net/~cass/draid/sar/sar-1.html
"This is our first attempt at publishing this half-adventure
on the Web. We haven't included absolutely all the
information ... we wanted some elements of suprise left in
there. We tried to set up a few pages so some secrets
were left to other pages. Let us know if this format seems
to work well."
