Downloadable Christian Craft

This pattern uses a technique called inside cuts to create a silhouette. The silhouette in this case a portrait of Christ with the crown of thorns. When I look at this pattern I am drawn to the words of Michael Card in his song "Why":

And why did there have to be a thorny crown
Pressed upon His head?
It should have been a royal one,
Made of jewels and gold instead.

It had to be a crown of thorns
Because in this life that we live,
For all who would seek to love
A thorn is all the world has to give.

How to download the pattern:

Step 1: Move the mouse pointer over the picture below.
Step 2: Hold the shift key down and left click on the picture.
Step 3: Choose a directory in which to download the pattern (it's a gif file). Wait for the file to download.
Step 4: Start MS Paint (either Win3.1 or Win95) and print it.

To cut the pattern:

1) Once it's printed, trace the image onto a piece of 8 inch by 11 inch by 3/4 inch oak.
2) Cut the oval from the oak.
3) Using an Ogee bit on your router, rout the edge of the oval.
4) Using a 1/8 inch drill bit, drill a hole straight down into the widest part of each black pattern.
5) Insert a scroll saw blade through each hole and cut out the silhouette.
6) Sand the face smooth and finish.
