4/1/98 The county jail project is progressing on schedule. Our Athens, OH architect, David Reiser has advised us on what is required. We have signed a contract to complete Phase 1, which will repair the slate roof and the gutters; and clean the exterior brick and repair mortar. This will begin as soon as the jail is vacated. Phase 2 will involve the heating and electrical systems, and asbestos removal. Phase 3 will involve tearing out or repairing the interior walls. A possible Phase 4 would be to add a building to the rear of the jail building for storage and public restrooms. We are fortunate that the courthouse across the street has public, handicapped-accessible restrooms to serve us for now!

8/1/99 - From the Newsletter
The jail building will be used in several ways. First, it will allow people to see and learn about law enforcement in our county's history. It will also provide something we have wanted for a long time: a centralized place where people cn go to learn about Noble County's past present and future. It will be an information center combining the tourism bureau and the chamber of commerce, along with changing displays teaching people about how Noble Countians lived and worked in the past.

WE WANT YOUR VALUABLE HISTORIC ITEMS

You may think the words "valuable" or "historic" do not apply to much of the "old stuff" in your basement, attic or outbuilding. Let us be the judge of thaat an we will be very thankful to you! Everyone collects something. Some collections are serious and some are "just for fun." We hope the ones we eveentually display at the Old Jail Museum will be a little of both, with the special purpose of informing the public. Some of you may be glad to help us extend of collection.

The Noble Co Historical Society is working to preserve local landmarks in the surrounding area. These are a few of the landmarks that were actually moved to the Noble Co Fairgrounds.
