Qualities of a Bride

These are the kinds of attributes I'm looking for in a potential wife. Actually, about 2/3 of these are derived from a list of attributes to look for in a husband compiled by Christy Farris, teen-age daughter of Michael Farris, as listed in his book The Homeschooling Father, pp. 77-78.

1. She must be a sound Biblical Christian, able to give a testimony of her faith.

2. Her doctrine must be compatible with my own.

3. She should be patient.

4. She should be kind.

5. She should be humble, not proud.

6. She should be self-effacing and trust in the Lord, not envious.

7. She should be even-tempered.

8. She should be forgiving.

9. She should abhor sin and evil and not delight in it.

10. She should be submissive to her father and mother.

11. She should be discerning.

12. She should have patience and perseverance.

13. She should be loving.

14. She should be gentle.

15. She should be joyful.

16. She should be good.

17. She should be peaceful.

18. She should be faithful and loyal.

19. She should be self-controlled.

20. She should be a hard worker.

21. She should love the Lord with all her heart, mind and soul.

22. She should walk in the ways of the Lord.

23. She should trust in the Lord.

24. She should earnestly study God's Word regularly.

25. She should not worry but take her cares to the Lord.

26. She should build others up, and disdain gossip and slander.

27. She should be sexually chaste and pure.

28. She should not joke coarsely nor enjoy foul jokes or evil conversation.

29. She should be content with the Lord's blessings and not be greedy.

30. She should not be influenced by pagan friendships or teaching.

31. She should be salt and light and obey the Great Commission.

32. She should love children.

33. She should attend church consistently.

34. She should keep her priorities straight.

35. She should have a compatible sense of humor.

36. She should have the approval of my own parents.

37. She should be physically attractive to me.

38. She should be prepared for motherhood and marriage.

39. She should be willing to accept my authority as head of the household.

40. She should be careful with money, financially resourceful and not a spendthrift.

41. She should have an active prayer life.

42. She should have good eating habits and not be seriously under or over weight.

43. She should be trustworthy.

44. She should not swear or speak in an ungodly manner.

45. She should be of noble character.

46. She should be worthy of my trust and confidence.

47. She should work to my good not harm.

48. She should be willing to work with her hands and at practical tasks.

49. She should be sacrificing for the needs of her family.

50. She should be diligent.

51. She should take care of herself and her body to keep herself healthy and attractive to me.

52. She should inspire and encourage me.

53. She should be strong and dignified.

Dating is like a princess going through the woods kissing frogs in hopes of finding a prince. She may find a prince. But most likely she'll grow to like kissing frogs so much she'll end up marrying one.
