The following is taken from eighteen-year old Angela K. Hanson's excellent monograph, Courtship and Dating: A Biblical Analysis, p. 11. I encourage you to pick up a copy for a suggested donation of $5 ($4 for 3+ copies) to Family Protection Ministries, 910 Sunrise Ave. #A-1, Roseville, CA 95661.
1. No fornication.
2. No contraction of STD's - Sexually Transmitted Diseases (if both parties are virgins before they court and marry).
3. No temptations for abortion because of an unplanned pregnancy.
4. Inter-family relationships with in-laws will be much better.
5. Fewer broken hearts and hurt feelings "Because the goal in a courtship relationship is not to achieve emotional and physical intimacy, the couple can terminate the relationship without leaving a piece of their heart behind. (Harris, Joshua, "Dating Problems/Courtship Solutions," New Attitude, 1(2):4-7.)
6. No date-rapes because the couple is never completely alone.
7. No "standards of comparison" from other male-female romantic relationships. Because there is never any "dating around," there won't be any comparisons of you to your spouse's previous dating partners.
8. Eliminates the temptation to fantasize or reminisce about "old flames" when things aren't going well in the marriage.
9. Because people who court, save their bodies and emotional feelings for the one they will marry, their marriages will be built on a stronger foundation. The chances of getting a divorce will be greatly reduced. Pretty good results! Just look at the growing divorce rates now compared to during the early history of our nation when courtship was more the pattern.
10. Courtship allows a single man or woman to use his or her time wisely, concentrating on serving God and preparing for life instead of wasting time on temporary dating relationships.
