Molasses Crinkle Cookies

Mix thoroughly:
3/4 c. soft shortening
1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses

Stir in:
2-1/4 c. all-purpose flour
2 t. baking soda
1/4 t. salt
1/2 t. ground cloves
1 t. ground cinnamon
1 t. ground ginger

Chill dough at least 45 minutes.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

Roll dough into balls the size of large walnuts.  Dip tops in granulated sugar.
Place dough balls, sugar side up, 3 inches apart on greased baking sheets.
Sprinkle each cookie with 2 or 3 drops of water to create a crackled surface
when they bake.

Bake 10-12 minutes, just until set but not hard.

Makes about 4 dozen cookies.
