Nursing Toddler (and Beyond)

I nurse my 4 and a few months old daughter because she and I both want to.She has known at every age when she was ready for the next step whether it was when to eat food, walk, use the toilet, or whatever. On the days she does not want to nurse or I am not available I see her chewing her clothing, something I almost never see at any other time from her. This tells me she still needs to nurse. Nursing is our quiet time, usually only right before bed, sometimes in the early morning before either of us is really awake. She is an active child, we are a busy family, this is one time to snuggle and relax together. Since about one year old she has pointed to my book for me to read while we nurse if I haven't already picked it up.

Last night I asked Anna when she thought she would be ready to be done nursing. She told me, "when I am 5." When she is ready she will stop.
