Dear Birth Parent,

Hello! We are Allen Halsell and Liz Erickson. Our marriage is based on trust, honesty and a sense of fun! We're eager to share these things with a child, and we hope that you can help our family grow through open adoption. Liz's sister is adopted, and some of our closest friends have children now living with adoptive parents. From them we know you are making a hard but loving choice, and we honor you for it.

Us.
Us.

What are we like? Well, Allen is a transplanted Texan who has fully adjusted to life in the Golden State. He loves the diversity and energy of Southern California, where he can always find something new and interesting, from great Cuban restaurants, fine museums, to Hong Kong movies. When his job at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory isn't keeping him busy you'll find him listening to all kinds of music, fixing up the house or relaxing with a good book. Often this is a cookbook since he enjoys cooking more than just about anything else (current favorite: Italian) and having people over for dinner.

Liz works in water quality at Pasadena's Department of Water and Power. She's enthusiastic and outgoing; she loves swimming, snorkeling and cycling, as well as her kayak! She spent a lot of time outdoors as a kid in Iowa and in college as a geologist, and she's never lost her love of nature. Not that she's always on the move ... you can also find her relaxing in the back yard with our cats.

Both of us will take time off to be with the baby and Liz will work part time later on. Since we both work close to home we can spend time together as a family.

(This page helped us to adopt our daughter, Emily. We're completely happy with her so this is just to help others learn about open adoption, and to see what can be done on the web.)
