John Topolyi, born circa 1873 in Slovakia, Autria-Hungary, died in May, 1945 of a stroke at North Jackson, Mahoning Co., Ohio. He migrated to America in 1888, possibly settling in eastern Pennsylvania. John married Mary Karabin, daughter of Martin Karabin and Anna Hozza, born 28 November, 1878 in Szepesarki (now Jamnik), Slovakia, died on 7 September, 1919 in Youngstown, OH of complications of diabetes. After the birth of their first two children, John and Mary returned to Europe in 1900, settling in Mary's birthplace where John farmed. In June, 1912, they again migrated to America, settling in Youngstown, Ohio where John was employed at the Carnegie Steel Works. It was after his second migration that John dropped the "i" from the family surname.

After Mary's death, John married Mary K Gonda, twice a widow. Mary's first husband was Frank Gregor by whom she had two sons and a daughter. Her second husband was _____ Jozefcik by whom she had one son. John and Mary bought a farm in North Jackson, OH where they both lived out their days. Mary died on 28 August, 1965. Both are buried at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.

Stephen Martin Topoly was born in Szepesarki (now Jamnik), Slovakia on 6 July, 1909. In 1941 he married as her second husband, Paula Katherine Stashinko. Steve migrated to America with his parents in June 1912 and lived the remainder of his life in the Youngstown, Ohio area. He was employed for a short time in a silk mill in DuBois, PA at the age of 16, then became a steelworker at the Ohio Works of U. S. Steel Corp. in Youngstown. He retired after 43 years in the mill and lived an enjoyable retirement in Austintown, OH. He died on 21 November, 1987 at age 78 of heart failure and is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
