Here's the Happy Ending story of Alex & Ellie (formerly Helen & Keller): ![]() Greetings TLC! I adopted two dogs from you in September 2006 and promised to send pictures of them once they were all grown up. I'm not sure if anyone I met there still works there, but I'm hoping they do. Someone there named the dogs "Helen" and "Keller" because the previous owner was "blind" to the fact that these dogs were sick and needed help. I'm not sure which one was Helen and which was Keller, but the darker brown/red dog I've since renamed "Alex" (wanted a tomboy-ish name as she was very rambunctious like a little boy). The light brown, more sick dog I've renamed Ellie (short for Eleanor, my grandmother's name). She was the one with Rickets and a rough cough. Both are doing very well, are well taken care of, and sometimes too spoiled. After I adopted them from you and brought them to my vet, they discovered Ellie had pneumonia. Alex had a little cough but was fine. We tried 3 different types of antibiotics with Ellie and none worked. Eventually she developed scar tissue in her lungs. I elected not to have surgery after spending a lot of money on the medication. She’s fine now though. She does have lingering effects of the scar tissue…periodic coughing, sometimes deep breathing and very seldomly she will throw up. Considering she had a very, very difficult time just breathing when I first brought her to the vet, she has come a long way. She is energetic and well-trained. She does an excellent job of letting me know when she needs to go out and very rarely potties in the house anymore. She’s a thick girl and weighs probably 10 lbs more than sister, Alex. She's also the dominant dog in the house (my girlfriend also has a Yorkie who's over most nights). Ellie protects her food and bones and is the queen of the three dogs. Also she needs my attention all the time. She gets very jealous if I give Alex attention. She loves people very much. We're working on keeping her from jumping up on all of our visitors! She also had rickets when I got her from you guys. This went away after about a month of sunshine and lovin'. She has very strong paws and forelegs now. Alex was energetic and healthy from day one. She is the more athletic and playful dog. She loves chewing on toys and running around, whereas Ellie is more content snuggling with Daddy. Alex is significantly lighter than Ellie, but holds her own against her more dominant, stronger twin sister. She has an oral fixation and always picks up something in her mouth when I come home or when she gets excited. You guys advertised the dogs as Weimeraner/Beagle puppies. Because they weren't growing that fast, my vet suggested they may have pit bull in them. Obviously this came as a surprise due to the stigma "pit bull" has on people, myself included. However, they are the sweetest dogs and are very affectionate. They just love people and kids. They will sit in the yard and just watch our neighbors all day. So when I'm asked what breed they are I tell them they are mostly pit bull, but are mixes. I think they may actually have some vizsla in them. Ellie is very thick, strong, and big boned much like a pitbull. Alex is a little more scrawny but is also very strong. Thanks for allowing me to adopt my best friends!
