Here's the happy ending story of Bailey (formerly Goldie):
We adopted Bailey (aka: Goldie) from TLC on March 14, 1998. I never had a dog but always wanted one of my own. A woman I worked with was looking through the newspaper and saw and ad for a yellow lab "free to good home". So I called the number and the lady told me that they had to get rid of the dog because her husband was allergic to it. I really wanted to see the dog first before I did anything. So I called my husband and asked him his opinion about the dog and going to see it and potentially bringing her home. At first he said no. Then after a few more minutes on the phone (probably thinking I would give up) said go ahead and do what you want. So I called her back and asked her when we could come see her. She told me that her husband had already arranged to take the dog to TLC Animal Shelter the following morning. I was in a panic. Something was drawing me to this dog. So I called the shelter the next morning to see if she was there and if they could hold her because I was coming right in. They were very nice but told me that unfortunately they can't hold a dog. I had to hurry! Not having any experience with a dog I took my brother-in-law with me and my 2 year old niece just to make sure how she would react to kids and men. We got to TLC and the gentlemen took me to her area. He said "There she is but she seems to be growling at everyone." She didn't look mean to me just sitting up against the cage. She just stared up at me with those big brown eyes! He said "We have this male over here." I went down to the male and he was just so excited! Not for me and a first time dog owner so I went back to the area where the female was. We took her out walked her around and she jumped right into the car! I was nervous and excited all at once! Well its eight years later and it has been one of the BEST and most enriching experiences of my life. Bailey has been the best dog anyone could ever have. And as far as the growling, there is not a mean bone in her body. The growling is more like moaning for more belly rubs! I am so glad I went to TLC right away and went with my instincts. And as far as my husband, needless to say, he always gives Bailey the first kiss goodnight Thank you TLC for our true companion. We love her dearly.
I am on your website daily always looking for another companion for us and Bailey. I recommend your shelter to everyone I know. Keep up the good work of finding homes for all of these wonderful animals.
