Here's the happy ending story of Chance (formerly Ralph):

Hi TLC! We wanted to let you know about our dog, Chance (formally Ralph) that we adopted from your animal shelter in early December of 2008. We lost the dog that we had for almost 14 years and needed a new friend. We looked around for a while and didn't find a dog we liked. We saw Chance (Ralph) on your web site and instantly fell in love with him. We showed my dad and he said that we weren't ready for another dog. But the next day, he surprised us and went to your animal shelter. When we came home from school, there was a dog sitting right there, waiting! We were shocked! He came right up and licked us. We knew instantly that he was the dog!

Our parents took him to the vet the next day. The vet flipped him over and saw that he had buck teeth! Then Chance (Ralph) started walking around and he had a bum leg. The vet said that he thinks he broke his leg, but never got treatment for it and it healed wrong. The vet also said that he thought that Chance (Ralph) was part yellow lab, and part terrier.

We wanted to find out what he was and what happened to his leg. There was a number in his papers that we could call to for information. When we called, the family said that Chance was a lab/terrier mix. They think he got his bum leg from getting hit by a car. They also said that Chance’s mom was the neighbor’s terrier, and his father was a black lab “rambling” dog. We found out that Chance was one of a litter of four; 2 boys and 2 girls. (They think that one of his sisters got hit by a car and died. They also think that the other sister died from dehydration.) Chance was never taken care of by his mother’s family, so he always went over to the neighbor’s farm and ate their food. The neighbors eventually took Chance and his brother in, but soon took them to the local Humane Society. Chance was then sent up to your animal shelter.

We were trying to figure out a name for our new puppy. We had thought of so many different names! Dad said Ed, but Mom suggested Chance because we are giving him a second chance in life. We all quickly agreed. We think it fits him perfectly.

We are spoiling Chance and giving him lots of love because his first 6 months were spent in the wild. He loves to play catch in the yard, shake hands, bark at squirrels and rabbits, sit and go for walks. We love him so much as well as his goofy imperfections! We have included some picture below. Thanks!

From,

The Hrymak Family
