Here's the Happy Ending story of Dali (formerly Dottie):
Here's our Dali, formerly Dottie. My son and I had owned our house for two and a half years, and I knew that it was time. I started looking on-line at various animal adoption agencies for our dog, and decided that she would have to come from TLC! I saw her picture on this site one evening, and it was LOVE at first sight! (I don't advise this, as I had to sweat it out over several days until I could get to the shelter to see if she was still there!)
But it was meant to be! When I walked into that room full of barking dogs, I was overwhelmed. I tried to hide my tears from my son. I wanted to bring them ALL home, and I'm sure this has been said thousands of times! There she was, frightened and timid in her cage. I said Hello to her, and casually looked at the rest of the tenants. My son told me that she was, " The perfect dog for us! " and I had to agree! When I asked Dennis (JR?) about her, he let my son and I take her for a walk in the yard.
The web-site had said that she was, "House trained and good with kids," and she proved that to us on that initial walk. Dennis told us that she was now OUR DOG, and we were so excited! After the car ride, she was a little apprehensive, confused, and exhausted! But it didn't take long for her to find her place in our home! She was reported to be one year old, and for a while I wondered... it was obvious that she had already had a litter of pups. ( and I wonder whatever happened to those pups, as she was found as a stray... ) But the Vet confirmed it, one year old.
This is the same Vet who performed her "alterations!", so no chance of that happening again! At first she was a bit reserved, but she has since regained her puppy-hood, and that is as it should be! She loves to be outside, and indeed everything in the yard is fair game! ( Read, NO SQUIRRELS ALLOWED! ) And, as you may notice, she likes to play king of the hill on last summers long forgotten planters! The snow bothers ME, but not her, and as I watch her she appears to be rolling an imaginary peanut through it's depths, and usually comes in with a frosty snout!
She has gained a few, much needed, pounds and if you look closely, you'll see her winter coat growing in, as if she's attempting a lion's mane! She barks only at the afore mentioned squirrels and the mail man, of course! ( WHY does he keep coming with all those BILLS, day after day? ) When others ask what "kind" of dog she is, I proudly tell them that she is a North American Shelter Mutt. Only The Best! I have also nick-named her The Amazing Collapsing Dog, because all you have to do is look at her and she rolls over to make it easier for you to give her belly a rub! She is usually never more than four feet from me, napping on any available rug, or as now, under the computer desk. Each night she sleeps next to my bed, and wakes me up with her version of a doggie smile, ( which also means, LET ME OUT! ) She's just a plain old, ordinary, every day GOOD DOG. My son and I, and Dali, of course, thank every one at TLC, for bringing this dog home to us! I want to see more Happy Ending stories on this site, I look at these pets quite often and wonder where they have all gone! If you love your new pet like we do, support TLC! Thank You, TLC, and keep up the great work!
