Here's the Happy Ending story of Dickens:

After losing our Rottie in April the house was not the same, so we were looking into adopting another dog. In July 2007, just by chance we ended up over at TLC to drop off a parakeet my son found in our yard. While we were there we were looking at the dogs and there sat Dickens. He was very quiet, shy, scared and just sooo cute! After taking him out in the yard for a bit we knew he was coming home with us.

Dickens was transported to TLC from a shelter in Indiana. He had heartworm, two badly broken canine teeth, under weight, and was deathly afraid of water. For the first two months he didn't even bark. He is over his health conditions now and is very energetic, and lovable.

He knows when the kids get home from school that it is his time to play, and go for a walk. He gets so excited and starts running through the house just to make sure I am aware that the kids are home. He will even nudge the kids if they don't say hi to him. He has been on a few trips with us and people flock to him because he is so well behaved, and cute. Plus he loves all the attention ! He still won't take dog treats, but he loves his corn bread.

On a camping trip he never went any further then 5 feet from us, even though he was on a 20 foot tether. And I could just forget about my using my sleeping bag alone, he had to share it with me. He also started to go in the small water streams (he used to avoid water puddles at all cost, even if it meant crossing the street).

Dickens has a play date with my best friends' two Shiba Inu pups every Sunday, even though Dickens is a senior he can still keep up with 11 month old pups, and loves every minute of it. Through it all he has proven to be a loving, and very loved family member.
