Here's the happy ending story of Finnbar (formerly Hemi): ![]() I adopted Finnbar (you called him Hemi), a three-year-old large border collie mix, in March 1999. He initially joined two other dogs and three cats in a happy household. Two years later, I became an active volunteer walker at nearby Humane Haven Animal Shelter. As all my critters were dog-friendly, I soon started bringing home shelter dogs for temporary housing until their adoption or rotation with another shelter dog. I have now brought over 60 dogs home for typical stays of a month or longer, and Finnbar has been friendly to all of them. He has also been great with my cats, even sharing their food when possible. He is getting a little grey now, but still enjoys long walks on village sidewalks with two or three other dogs. He also reacts very vigorously to doorbell chimes, even if it is only a pizza commercial. Finnbar is the black and white dog in the center of the photograph. The dogs are pointed in all directions because we are stopped for the photo; actually that set walked together very well. Jack Shannon Bolingbrook |
