Here's the happy ending story of Fuzzy (formerly Sandy):

I'd had to have my older cat (20 years) put to sleep in October of this year. I wanted to get a friend for my younger cat, but mine is not an easy household to put a new pet into - I have 2 Jack Russell Terriers and the older one is not exactly friendly toward others. So...I put the word out to vets and friends that I was searching for one with a 'brat' personality (my vet's term!). Usually one that had been raised by humans works well in this situation.

I visited several adoption centers and met a couple of hand-raised kittens, but no one seemed to have the personality I knew I needed to find. Finally, I went to TLC on the day after Thanksgiving.

I wandered the shelter, visited with the dogs and cats, but no one seemed like they were 'the one'. I did visit with an older dachshund, but knew I'd never be able to take her home (the older dog thing again). I was about to give up and go home, but something made me stay.

Then a lady came in with a large pet carrier. I overheard her say that she was bringing in two orphan kittens. The mom had been feral. I approached her and she brought the kittens out and introduced them to me. One was a female muted calico with white paws named 'Mittens' and the other was a male buff tabby (both had long hair) named 'Sandy'.

I waited until they'd been logged in with the TLC folks and put into their cage. 'Mittens' was a bit more confident and immediately wanted to play. 'Sandy' sat back and watched me quietly, interested, but he was shaking a bit. I asked if I could hold 'Sandy' and he was put into my arms. Well, that was it. I walked around with him and let him look at everyone and everything. He just observed - in rather a wise fashion, I thought! - no hysterics. Yes, this was the one for me and my little family. Re-christened 'Fuzzy' by me, we went home!

He is just the funniest, most happy-go-lucky kitten I've ever had! I learned early on that he was a climber, so I had to go out and purchase a second cat tree for 'his' room (I keep my pets separated until they're getting on well) and you'd have thought he'd died and gone to heaven. He loves to sleep in his crow's nest! And talk about purr machine! Anytime you pet him, he's purring!

It took no more than 2 weeks for him to adjust to my house and my other pets. My other cat accepted him immediately! It took about a week before he was tolerating the dogs through the dog gate and only a few more days before he decided he was 'better' than them anyway and he was king of the house! Now he has the run of the house and plays with piles of toys (both dog and cat variety), a cat tunnel, cat trees and several 'Turbo Scratchers'. He and my other cat run through the house and keep each other exercised. Then they jump into the bed in the bay window and curl up together. Fuzzy even plays with my younger Jack Russell Terrier and seems to have decided that dogs aren't too bad after all.

Wasn't it a lucky day for all five of us when I walked into TLC?

I've attached a photo of Fuzzy with two of his new siblings and one of Fuzzy in his favorite cat tree.
