Here's the Happy Ending story of Ginny: ![]() I got there and she was ADORABLE!!! But I couldn’t get her without Rebecca seeing her. I asked about her at the front and the lady said someone else was looking at her as well. My heart started beating hard, were we going to be able to bring her home? As soon as Rebecca came home from work that night, I told her she HAD to get to TLC right after work the next day. I showed the picture on the website and she thought she was cute. I told her wait until you see her in person! The next day came around and we both went to work. The shelter was only open until 4pm so we both had to fly from our jobs to get there. Was she already adopted? Were we too late? I came flying in to the parking lot and ran into the building, breathing hard. One of the workers spotted me. I asked if my wife was here. She looked at me with a smile and said, “She’s in the “getting to know you” room.” I ran around the corner and spotted Rebecca in the side room with this little calico fuzzball running all over the place. Someone was happy to get out of her pen (or get away from her brother!). I went in and Rebecca was all smiles. We watched her for a few minutes, picked her up when we could catch her and let her be her kitten self. She had this little smudge of black under her chin and very expressive eyes. I knew she had to come home with us. We took her out and I said to the worker, “One kitten to go please.” We filled out the paperwork, paid the money, the little one got her shots and we put her in a cardboard carrier for the ride home. Rebecca took her in her car and put the seatbelt over the box. (Safety first!) We brought her home and had a litter box, kitten chow and a water bowl set up. She was a little scared (who wouldn’t be?) but as soon as she saw the yellow string and the food bowl, she was fine! We then decided to name her Genevieve Vespa or “Ginny” for short. (The Vespa part because her purr sounded like a little motorscooter.) Then came the hard part, the introduction of Ginny to Samantha. Sam, who had never really been around another cat, was very apprehensive and moved in very slowly. She gave her a sniff and hissed at her. This was not going to be easy! We kept Ginny in the spare room for several days but whenever we opened the door, she flew out! So with a little “parental guidance” we introduced her to the house…and Sam. Sam would give her a little whack now and then but Ginny always thought it was playtime! She also made it very difficult to sleep at night as she would cry as soon as the door was closed. I spent many nights with her in the spare room with her until she stopped crying and went to sleep. (Good bonding time!) When she got nervous she would nurse on the blanket or our fingers, pumping her little paws up against us. Talk about adorable!!! Pretty soon Ginny had the run of the house. Samantha finally realized she had a new playmate and we had a cute little calico! It’s been around 11 months since we got her (May 10, 2007) and she is an absolute sweetheart. She has an adorable little meow, loves carrying paper balls and milk rings around the house and having a good wrestle with Samantha. (It seems Ginny is good for Sam as she has brought out her “inner kitten”. Sam has lost some weight, more active and playful.) She does wake us up at strange hours of the night by a tapping paw to the forehead, a licking on the nose or a walking across my chest with a loud purr, but we can’t be mad at her. She doesn’t get into any of our food and likes to watch when we do the dishes. (She does like stealing twist ties though!) We are looking forward to many years of her being a fun little kitten and who knows, maybe she’ll need a playmate when she gets older! P.S. Ginny’s brother was adopted a few days later, so everyone found a home! ![]() ![]() |
