In Loving Memory of Murphy ![]() I wanted to tell you about a happy ending that actually occurred back in 2001 (sorry it has taken me so long to write about our experience). My husband and I were about to celebrate our one year anniversary when Michael came up with the idea of adopting a cat. I think this was his way of getting out the kids topic. Nonetheless I listened and we agreed to go out and look for some puppies instead. I always had dogs growing up and the thought of a cat less then appealed to me. This, however, would be my husband's first time living with a dog. We went to T.L.C. on November 16, 2001, the day before our first anniversary. We walked in and asked about the puppies. Well it did not take long for both of us to completely fall to our knees. Those beautiful babies all looking at us with those, well "puppy dog eyes". We looked and made suggestions, we played with a few pups too. But there was one puppy that was wagging his little tail and looking at my husband. Well when they say a dog picks you they were right. Michael fell in love instantly with "Owen." But we had to do the "can we think about it game". That took about five minutes and back we went. Turns out Owen had been adopted once before, although he was only eight weeks old. So it did not make us feel bad to change his name. We drove home and just before we turned into our neighborhood we both looked up at the street sign and there it was, Murphy. And so it was. ![]() Murphy grew and grew and grew into a big baby. He needed to be with us all of the time. He went through his puppy stage of chewing and biting but through it all he was a great dog. He NEVER ran away, in fact I think he knew how good he had it at home. A year and a half after we adopted Murphy our first born baby came into the picture. Rather then being jealous, Murphy was just that much more protective. Being a doberman and shepherd mix he was very smart, great with both of our kids and protective at all costs. ![]() Murphy has a funny way of making people smile. I am not sure if it was his floppy ears, the way he trotted to one side or that he almost smiled when he saw people. But most of the time people would either call him goofy or beautiful. Murphy was the light of my life, my baby, my first born. ![]() On February 28th, 2009 we lost Murphy while we were on vacation. He died due to torsion. I will never forget our baby, he lived a great life and made our life better for knowing him. Thanks to TLC for letting us take care of one of your babies even if it was for a short time. We love you Murphy. You are forever loved and forever missed. Mom, Dad, and your siblings, Caleb and Delaney ![]() ![]() |
