Here's the Happy Ending story of Shila (formerly Uriel): ![]() Two months ago we were finally ready to get a puppy after grieving the loss of our dog a year earlier. My husband and I and our three daughters came to TLC 'to look around'. Knowing them, I didn't think we would leave empty-handed. We arrived there just before closing, rush hour had us concerned we'd not get there in time at all. With only 15 minutes to spare, there were so many wonderful dogs to see. My husband and I tried to get the girls to look at all of them. But almost immediately after getting inside the door, they had focused their attention on a 3-4 month husky mix, Uriel. She was shy, hanging near the back of the crate, only wagging her tail and sticking a paw out of the front of the cage at them. She looked like a small polar bear, and we were taken with her sweetness. There was no need to look at all the other adorable pups in the room. She was ours. She was renamed 'Shila', both for her nature and her possibly husky heritage. After getting her home, we discovered she DOES make noise, quite a vocal dog really. She has maintained her sweet 'shy' nature, with usual bouts of puppy craziness thrown in. She loves the children immensely, and is more their dog than ours. During these two months, she's also changed in her outward appearance. She's gone from a polar bear to a...........I'm not sure what! Although she still has the husky masked face, her polar bear fluff is now sleek and shiny white with some brown cropping up. Her nose is long and stubby. We've heard that she looks like a boxer. She can howl like a hound when my daughter plays her flute. She has the 'double dew' back claws of possibly a Pyrenees. My neighbors think she has terrier ears. I would love to know what kind of collaboration of breeds make up our special girl, but she's uniquely Shila, and we're very grateful to have adopted her from TLC! The Erdmann family |
