The Love of Animals

Reprinted from The Homer Horizon February 15, 2006

There are many places to go to get a pet. There are breeders, pet stores and shelters. The places I like the best are shelters. One reason why I like shelters the best are because when you get a pet from there you are saving a pet. Also, a lot of pets from shelters did not have good homes or loving owners before, so when you get a pet from a shelter you are giving that pet a second chance at life. Some animals were even homeless since many animals get lost these days. As you can see, I like animal shelters a lot and that is why my family and I have adopted three pets from shelters. We have adopted two dogs and one cat. The two dogs that we got were Cody and Ramone. My parents adopted Cody when they first got married, Cody was a very good dog, and lived to be a happy 17 years old. Last year we got Ramone, my other dog. We got Ramone at the TLC Animal Shelter; he is a Shepard/Husky mix. He was only 8 weeks old when he was adopted. He is a little over a year old now and is still a crazy puppy, but he is also cute and adorable. Last but not least is my cat Izzy (short for Isabella). We adopted her about two years ago from TLC. When we got her they told us she was four, but that was only an estimate, so we really do not know how old she is. We think she is about six. I really recommend a shelter for a pet so you can help animals find kind loving homes. So go to a shelter if you are looking for a good family pet.
