Reprinted from Lemont Reporter/Met December 8, 2006 Staff Writer With visits from Santa Claus, shopping and holiday merriment offered to lighten even the heaviest hearts, a local festive atmosphere still offers more to help make it a happy holiday season. If Annie Coleman of Lemont has her way, pet lovers will attend one of her favorite events. From 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, she hopes halls will be packed at the annual Christmas open house at TLC Animal Shelter, 13016 W. 151st St., Homer Glen. A time for anyone in the community to visit the myriad of animals available for adoption, director Denny Carter said there will be coffee and cookies and people can walk around and see the animals. They can also donate anything from blankets to cash to food to help make it a Merry Christmas for the many animals people drop off at the facility, nearly daily, he said. While there, one may come across Coleman hawking a 2007 pet calendar that features her white miniature poodle, Squirt, in sunglasses and a Santa hat on the December page. Having adopted him from the center, she said funds raised from calendar sales help cover medical treatments needed by some animals. For more information, call (708) 301-1594.
