Shorty Getting Ready for June 6th Walkathon ![]() Hi! No we weren't playing an April Fool's Day joke on you, in the last issue. I had stated that TLC was going to be 35 years old on April 1st this year, which is true, but you might have noticed the envelopes say 34 years and so did the stickers. Trying to cut corners my people friends thought using up the old envelopes and stickers we already had on hand would be more cost efficient, hoping nobody would notice. I thought hmmmm if nobody noticed that would mean nobody is reading the newsletter! So instead of worrying about the upcoming deadline, I'll just settle down for a nice long nap. "Shorty of course our friends read the newsletter, so forget about the nap right now, we have a deadline to meet. You have to tell all of our friends about the TLC walk a thon coming up June 6th." You're right, it is right around the corner. "By the way Shorty, are you going to walk in the event this year?" Does that mean I am going to have to work out? I remember how strenuous those work outs were for me last year. "Hmmmm strenuous? That word isn't quite the way I would describe your workouts. Sandi documented them all, and our people friends can see it all on YouTube. I think our friends should take a look at those videos and come to their own conclusion. If nothing else they might get a good chuckle out of it." HUMPH, that wasn't a very nice thing to say! I didn't see anything funny about it. I'll have you know the first week I worked very hard lifting weights. Sandi (also my personal trainer) even brought me a sweatband to wear. "Shorty my take on you lifting weights was you lifting one foot over the other in order to walk over the weights, never once did you lift those weights." Okay so perhaps lifting weights was not my best workout endeavor but I did a lot better on the trampoline. "Shorty I couldn't help but notice your trampoline workout consisted of what appears to be you turning around and around, trying to fmd the best way to take a nap on it. After doing that you proceeded to take your workout towel, and wrapped it around yourself as you got nice and comfy." Hmmmm for some reason I don't remember that. Let's skip that and go on to week three, the stepper. Sandi demonstrated how to use the stepper and then I quickly followed suit, nearly working up a sweat! "You're halfway right on this one. Sandi did show you how to use the stepper, but Sandi also had to ply you with treats to even get you to put one paw on it. With all the treats Sandi was trying to entice you with, the stepper looked more like a giant food tray." Okay so the stepper was a little hard for me, but week four I gave it my all. "Shorty, that was the swimming work out. How can you say you gave it your all when you didn't even get wet!" I did too get wet! "If you call batting the toy red boat with your paw getting wet, UGH!" That was a lot of work chasing that little boat around, for about 5 minutes, I worked up a real sweat! "Good griefl" And you must admit the final stages of my work out, I really gave it my all. The yoga training, and meditating was not always easy with all the commotion that goes on at the shelter. It was mind over matter. "Heehee you may call it meditating but to me it looked more like you were taking a cat nap. But I'll give you an A+ for effort there." And carb loading was not as easy as it looked! "Shorty what am I going to do with you. you are something else. But getting back to the walkathon are you going to walk in the event?" I'm going to give it my best effort! As a matter of fact I am going to start training for the walkathon right now. "Good for you Shorty! Do you want me to bring you the weights or the stepper?" Neither right now, I'm going to start off my training with carb loading, followed by doing a little bit of yoga. So I'm off to the kitchen to grab a few power bars. Gotta Run! Love, Shorty PS If you can't make the event you can still help out by sponsoring me! THANKS! Some Folks you should know ![]() I woke up one morning and found I couldn't be crabby because the cat tangled in my hair and the dogs under the covers fussing over a bone made me smile. I thought of my life rich with the mingling of many of God's forgotten children. God created all things but sometimes I find myself spinning around thinking I am the only important thing that ever took a breath. I wrote this in reflection of all the beautiful little creatures that have been sent my way. The little ones that for some reason woke up one morning and found themselves without a home and someone greater than I sent them to me. Forty Years Ago Forty years ago 16.5 million animals were euthanized yearly because of the pet overpopulation crisis. This year figures say it is down to approximately 4 million animals. We have come a long way, but we can do even better. Spread the word, people do listen! Remind folks to spay and neuter their pets!
