~ Funeral Procession And One Minute Silence ~

          BUCKINGHAM PALACE 2 September 1997

EVENT ~ FUNERAL PROCESSION AND ONE MINUTE SILENCE

Representatives from all the Princess of Wales's past and present charities are being invited to walk in the procession behind the Princess's coffin from St James's Palace to Westminster Abbey.

The families believe that it would be fitting and in accordance with the Princess's wishes if the procession is largely made up of people who have worked for and benefited from her charities. Five representatives from each of the 100 charities linked with the Princess will take part. We hope that the representatives will come from all backgrounds, and include children and disabled people.

Those taking part in the procession will be able to watch the funeral service by way of a large screen at a location near the Abbey. For practical reasons those in the procession will not be able to attend the service itself, but one further representative from each charity will be invited to do so.

The many people who will not be able to be in the Abbey will be able to share in the remembrance of the Princess, as there will be a one minute silence after the service and before the Princess's coffin leaves the Abbey.

Remaining details concerning the Procession and the funeral service are being finalised and will be announced in due course.
