Elijah Reed



The present church building, completed in 1897, is now 101 years old. Chapel Hill was originally know(n) as Reed's Chapel. About 1843 Elijah Harrison Reed taught school in a log cabin down the hill in front of the present church. The cabin was also used as a Masonic Lodge and a Methodist Church. After the Civil War (about 1870), a second building was constructed in the general area of the present church. The name was changed from Reed's Chapel to Chapel Hill...
