Horatio Nelson Obituary
Sunday Courier [Poughkeepsie Newspaper] Sunday, Oct. 16, 1938 Horatio Nelson Many friends attended the funeral of Horatio Nelson, 75, which was held from his home on the South road Wednesday morning with the Rev. Dr. Alexander Cummins, rector of Christ Church, officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Mr. Nelson was for many years conspicuous as a member and leader at the Dutchess Golf and Country Club. He served as chairman of the greens committee for many years. It was he who laid out the last nine holes of the golf course on the South road and also laid out the course in College Hill Park under Mayor Caven. Born in New York, April 15, 1863, a son of William and Matilda Bebee Nelson, he had resided in this city many years. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Cecelia Nelson; a half brother Gerald Nelson, Dobbs Ferry, and two half sisters, Mrs. Ernest Acker, Spring Gables Springside, and Mrs. John B. Fitzpatrick, also of Springside. |
