George Mayfield to William Tippen No 319
7th September 1829
South Carolina - Whereas Charles McClain dec'd late of Spartanburg District,
did by his last will and testament give the tract of land on which he xxxxx
lived to his wife, Elizabeth McClain during her natural life and after her
death bequeathed said tract of land to his son James McClain and his heirs
and assigns forever and these since being conveyed by the said James
McClain to George Mayfield after the death of the said Elizabeth McClain
Note Know all men by these presents that I the said George Mayfield of the
state and District aforesaid for the consideration of the sum of four
hundred and twenty five dollars to me paid by William Tippen of the
District and state aforesaid, have granted, bargained and sold and by
these presents do grant bargain, sell xxxx the said William Tippen xxx
my rights, title and interest of the aftersaid tract of land situated in the
District & state aforesaid on both sides of Abner's Creek of Enoree River.
Beginning by a line running S.E. on Bennett Wilson's land, N.E. on
Thomas Taylors land, N.W. on William Tippens land, S.W. on Samuel
Mannick's(?) land originally granted by the State of N. Carolina to
Samuel Clinney(?) for 150 acres in a survey dated the 6th of June 1769
and since regranted by this state to the said Charles McClain on the
2nd of December 1816 which is the whole of the land to be conveyed to
the same more or less together with all and singular the rights, members,
xxxxxxx and appertenances to the said premises belonging or in any
wise incident or appertaining to have and to hold all and singular the
premises before mentioned after the death of the said Elizabeth
McClain unto the said William Tippins his heirs and assigns forever
and I do hereby bind myself my heirs , executors and administrators
to warrant and for ever defend all and singular the said premises
unto the said William Tippens, his heirs and assigns against myself
and my heirs or any persons lawfully claiming or to claim this land or
any part of.
Witness my hand and seal this 3 day of March in the of 1823. Signed

Personally appeared Jesse Hammett before me and stated under oath that
he saw George Mayfield sign and xxxxx deed xxxxx within deed for this xx
and xxxx Within mentioned and that also Caleb Greer together with himself
subscribed their names as witnesses in the xxx executions of the same.
