Punkin was one of the many feral cats that lived in my mother's neighborhood. On an extremely cold January morning in 1994, my sister called me to say she had trapped Punkin in the garage; could I take her to the shelter (a no-kill shelter where I volunteer). Well, she took refuge in the rafters of the garage and it was quite a job trying to catch her! Finally, mission accomplished, we took her to the shelter where, surprise, almost nine weeks later, she gave birth to three beautiful brown tabby boys. It was a difficult delivery for Punkin. Two very dedicated volunteers (to whom I am very grateful!) spent the night with her, and later took Punkin and her new family home. In July, the three little boys came back to the shelter with mom. I saw them, and knew I had to take one home with me...but which one? I lined all three up so one could pick me...and Sammy stepped forward.
Sammy fit right in with the other cats. He is such a lovable, friendly cat...I call him my feline teddy bear...he loves to be picked up and hugged. Sammy used to like to play fetch, but I think he finally realized that it was not the "cat" thing to do! His favorite pasttimes are sitting on top of his "mommy's" reading material while she's trying to read, or standing in front of the monitor when she's at the computer! (p.s. Punkin still resides at the shelter & is doing fine).
Below is Sammy showing off some rosettes he won at a cat show.
