Antoine Beauchamp
~ My French Connection ~
Antoine (Antony) BEAUCHAMP was born abt 1790.
In 1823 or 1824, Antoine came from
Pontiac County in Lower Canada (Quebec)
to work with Joseph Brunette,
who was the 1st actual settler in what became Renfrew Township.
Antoine and 2 other hired men,
spent their time in lumber jobbing,
clearing the land around their shanty and growing a small patch of potatoes.
Antoine eventually settled on Lot 6, Con 2 in Horton Township.

Margaret had arrived only recently with her family
from Balquhidder Perthshire Scotland.
Margaret's parents,
Malcolm McLAREN and Janet FISHER
were from an area of Scotland that was overpopulated,
so he along with other families,
signed a bond with Alexander, the Laird of McNab Township.
They boarded the ship 'Niagara' at Greenock Scotland
and arrived in Canada on June 23 1825.
Margaret McLaren BEAUCHAMP, Antoine & Margaret's daughter,
was born September 25 1827 in McNab Township.
(Antoine & Margaret may have had other children, but so far, I'm unaware of any).
Margaret BEAUCHAMP married David AIRTH on June 23 1845 in Bathurst District.
David & Margaret's children were:
1) Margaret born March 8 1845, married Malcolm McDERMID (9 children)
2) *Marion born September 7 1847, married her 1st cousin, Henry JAMIESON
3) Agnes born May 24 1849, married Robert STEWART (3 children)
4) Robert born November 19 1851, married Rebecca Forrester BLAIR (4 children)
Marion AIRTH married Henry JAMIESON on June 28 1867 in the village of Renfrew.
Marion's sister Margaret McDERMID was her bridesmaid.
Henry was the son of William JAMIESON and Marion's Aunt, Marion Park AIRTH.
Henry & Marion had a family of 8 children.
The 1842 CENSUS for HORTON Township:
Antoine & Margaret BEAUCHAMP own 100 acres of land, with 20 acres improved.
They owned 9 head of cattle
1 horse
9 sheep
3 hogs
In the previous year he had produced 300 bushels of potatoes
120 lbs maple sugar
36 yards of flannel
26 lbs wool
The 1851 CENSUS for HORTON Township:
The Widow BEAUCHAMP is shown as the farmer on Lot 6, Con 2.

Antoine BEAUCHAMP died December 16 1850, at the age of 60.
Margaret BEAUCHAMP died November 2 1888, at the age of 85.
They are buried in the Martin Cemetary, just east of Renfrew town limits.
