That Glorious Appearing

AND what shall be my heart's reaction
When Godhead glory bursts upon my gaze,
And I behold in awesome splendour
That countenance more bright than sunshine's blaze?

To see that scarred brow with diadema crown,
To hear His name throughout all Heaven renowned.
Then to recall ---
HE bled alone for me!
Abandoned, accursed in deepest misery.

Who, for my lost and hell-deserving soul,
Was stricken down to depths beyond compare,
And died, rejected and despised
In suffering none could understand or share.

Then for me, vanquished death and hell
That I to highest Heaven might soar. Shall not my first reaction be --
LORD, How I wish I'd loved Thee more!
