James Crawford 's Early Death
(This article was in the Forest Standard Newspaper in Ontario on March 8, 1900)
KILLED ON THE TRACK
James Crawford, a section man,
was killed instantly on the G.T.R. track,
2 1/2 miles east of Camlachie on Tuesday morning, between 10 and 11 o'clock.
It appears that he had walked over the section and was returning.
The express train due at Forest at 9:55 am
was closely followed by the snowplough attached to two engines.
Mr Crawford got off the track to allow the express to pass, then resumed his way,
and was shortly after struck by the snowplough.
Neither the engineers or the firemen saw him, on account of the snowplough,
but the men on the car saw the body at the side of the track and stopped,
took up the body, which was lifeless, and carried it to Camlachie.
Coroner Harvey, of Wyoming, was called and a jury empannelled.
Dr Brown made a post mortem and a verdict of accidental death returned.
The deceased was 39 years of age and leaves a wife and six children to lament his untimely end.
There is no way to account for the accident but that the wind was high at the time
and he had no idea of the snowplough following so closely in the wake of the express train.
The family have the deepest sympathy of everybody.
And then, in the next day's edition:
