John Jamieson & Marion Hamilton


John JAMIESON was chr Nov 10 1743 in Bourtries in Lesmahagow Lanark Scotland,
the son of James JAMIESON & Janet FLEMING
who had married Feb 14 1741 in Avondale Lanark Scotland.


Bourtries was a farm
in what was known as
the Ten Pound Land district
of Lesmahagow Parish.

It was about 3 miles SW of Lesmahagow village,
in the area now known as Hawksland
(this area was also known as Mossminion)


Marion HAMILTON was born Oct 5th / chr Oct 9th 1746 in Hamilton Lanark,
the daughter of John HAMILTON & Jane (Jean) DOWNS
who had married Dec 29 1734 in either Dalziel or Hamilton Lanark Scotland.


John & Marion
married Nov 16 1769
in Lesmahagow Lanark Scotland.

John & Marion had 5 children:

1) Marion b Aug 17 1770 in Netherhouse Lesmahagow Lanark
2) Janet b Dec 21 1772 in Netherhouse Lesmahagow

Netherhouse was a farm in Lesmahagow parish.

James was a 'Day Labourer' in Stonehouse
by the time of his daughter Margaret's birth in 1777.


3) Margaret b Mar 13 1777 in Stonehouse Lanark
married John TULLIS on Jul 13 1805 in Stonehouse Lanark (8 children)
John & Margaret emigrated to Drummond Township in Lanark county abt 1821.
Margaret died abt 1851 in North Elmsley Township Lanark Ontario.


4) Jane b Apr 2 1782 in Stonehouse Lanark

5) James chr Apr 18 1784 in Stonehouse Lanark
married Isobell GRAY on Jul 18 1804 in Stonehouse Lanark (10 children)
(Isobell GRAY's parents were Robert GRAY & Martha HAMILTON)

John died Jul 4 1813 in Stonehouse,
with Marion dying just the next year on Jan 24 1814.


A headstone, erected in 1813, is stone number 86
in the old kirk cemetery, Stonehouse, Lanarkshire.
The inscription reads:


Erected by Jas. JAMIESON
in Memory of his Father JOHN JAMIESON,
who died July 4th 1813, aged 70 years.

Also his mother MARION HAMILTON,
who died Jany 24 1814, aged 69 years.
