William Henry Manicom

William Henry MANICOM was born Nov 21 1859 in Tintagel Cornwall England,
the youngest child of James MANICOM & Elizabeth (Betsy) BRAY
who had married Jul 27th 1841 in Tintagel.

William's mother Betsy died on May 25 1862 when he was only 3 years old
so it seems that his sister Elizabeth Rechabina not only took over housekeeping duties,
but became like a 2nd mother to her little brother.

William emigrated to Cobourg in Middlesex county Ontario in 1872 and became dairy farmer.

On Nov 10 1886 he married a widow, Josephine FREW (nee BARRY) who already had 2 little boys.

William & Josephine had 2 children:
1) Henry Arthur born Sep 9 1888
married Mary E MALONE on Apr 20 10th 1910

Henry & Mary had at least 1 child:
Henry Arthur Jr born Feb 12 1911 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania
Harry married Elizabeth (Betty) Ann RICHARDELLA abt 1942 (3 children)
Harry died 1988 and Betty died 1987 in California.

2) Agnes Josephine born abt 1889
married her 1st cousin, William James BISCOMBE abt 1922 (5 children)
(William was born abt 1889 in St Juliot Cornwall England,
the son of Agnes' aunt Philippa Ann MANICOM & Stephen BISCOMBE)

a farm labourer, wage earner, could read & write.
MANACOM, Josephine - female, 33 married, wife to family head, born in USA,
parents born in Ireland, a Methodist, could read and write.
MANACOM, Stewart - male, 8 yrs, son, born Ontario,
father born Ontario, mother born USA,
a Methodist, could read & write
MANACOM, William - same as Stewart but 7 yrs and couldn't read and write
MANACOM, Henry - same as William but 2 yrs old

Note - Stewart & William are listed as Manacoms but they kept the surname FREW.


Josephine Barry Frew MANICOM died abt 1893,
just a few short years after this Census.


William remarried Jan 2 1895
to Elizabeth Jane WELLS
in Hamilton Ontario


William & Elizabeth had 5 children:
1) William Charles b Oct 26 1896 / died Mar 29 1897
buried in Cobourg Union Cemetary, Cobourg Middlesex Ontario

2) Hazel Dean b Mar 13 1898
married Ira Maurice FALLOON abt 1929 (at least 3 children)
Ira was born Nov 5 1897
(the son of David R FALLOON & Margaret E WAUGH of Warwick Township)

3) Percy Wells b Dec 28 1899 / died Jun 30 1964
married Georgena OLIVER on Oct 1st 1927 (1 child)

4) Wilfred John b Apr 2 1903 / died 1970
married Hazel OLIVER abt 1926 (7 children)
Hazel & Georgena OLIVER were sisters as well as sisters-in-law !!

5) Nellie born abt 1905
married Mr GALLIENE (at least 1 child)


Elizabeth Jane WELLS died Jun 22 1947 in Hamilton Wentworth Ontario.


WILLIAM H MANICOM

One-time citizen of Cobourg,
William H. MANICOM passed away this week
at the home of his daugher, Mrs. Ira Falloon, Warwick Village.

The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at 2,
to the Nine Sideroad Cemetery.

The deceased was 92 years old
and first came to Canada from England at the age of 18.
He lived in this district until 1921 when he went to Adelaide Township.
Later he moved to the place of his death, Warwick Township.

He is survived by 2 sons:
Percy, Kerwood ; Wilfred, Mount Elgin,
and 3 daughters:
Mrs Ira Falloon, Warwick Village;
Mrs William Boscombe, in England,
and Mrs N Galliene, Windsor.
