Daughter of Nathaniel Mastic, born in Massachusetts July 8, 1772, and Lydia Caryl, born 1771. Betsey's grandfather, John Mastic, was born in Scotland in 1717, and married Sarah Coy, born in 1712 in Farmington, Mass. He was pressed into the English service, where he remained until reaching Boston Harbor, when he escaped, and in his flight exchanged clothes with a man digging a cellar under a mill, and also changed his name from Salter to Mastic, by which he was always known thereafter.

Obituary: Edwin A. Farr, aged 55 years, 2 months, 15 days. We have again this week to record the death of one of our old neighbors, Mr. Edwin Farr, who died last Thursday evening, Oct. 15, and was buried Sabbath Oct 18. Funeral services were held at Kings Opera House and were conducted by the Rev. Andrew Wilson of Ravenna. Mr. Edwin A. Farr, son of Abel and Betsey Farr, who died about 21 years ago, was born in Shalersville, July 26, 1830, and was 55 years old at the time of his death.
Edwin was the fifth child of ten children, seven boys and three girls, the oldest being 65 and the youngest 45 years of age. The deceased being the first death among the brothers and sister, seven of whom were present at the funeral.
He was married to Julia nee Boots Aug. 10, 1865. Julia died Jun. 16, 1867, leaving one daughter, Betsey, who is the wife of Amasa Payne and resides in Euclid, Oh, and was present at the funeral with her husband and two children. He was again married to Matilda nee Rathbone, July 12, 1868. Matilda died Dec. 14, 1870. He married Olive nee Bugbee, who survives him, Mar. 31, 1872 and by whom he has one son, Asa Abel, who is 13 years of age. Deceased has resided at Mantua Station since the year 1858. He built the first house after the survey of the village, on the lot now occupied by O. P. Hayes; has been sick since Mar. 17, 1883, has been a great sufferer, which he has born with remarkable patience and courage, having by ten surgical operations, been relieved of 385 pounds of water.

BIRTH: Daughter of John D. BUGBEE and Emily HALSTEAD.
His father died in 1885 when he was 13 years old. He worked for the Erie Railroad from 1889 to 1907, with a break for the Spanish American War. He served in the 2nd Ohio Volunteer Cavalry, Troop C, Ohio Soldiers in the War with Spain, 1898-99. He never saw action. By the time he reported for duty, the war was over. After the war, in 1899 he was a brakeman on Erie Railroad in Mantua, Ohio. In the 1900 census he was listed as a Railroad Brakeman in Youngstown, Mahoning, Ohio. In 1905 he was a conductor. The train went from Youngstown to Ashtabula and back.
In 1907 he decided to move south. Every time the train stopped, he asked if there were any railroad jobs. In Charleston they said yes. He moved to Charleston, South Carolina, in 1907. Between 1907 and 1938 he worked for the Atlantic Coastline Railroad in Charleston, Charleston, South Carolina. In 1910 he was a railroad brakeman and in 1920 he was a conductor.
Asa withdrew all of his money from the bank before the depression. The money stayed in the house. In 1932 he bought 1 acre of land in Charleston Heights. A house was put on it by 1935.
He died on 26 Oct 1950 in Charleston, Charleston, South Carolina and was buried in Riverview Cemetery in Charleston. The cause of death was congestive heart failure.
He was a member of the Society of Friends in Ohio. His wife was a member of the Church of Christ in Ohio. When they moved to Charleston, they were charter members of 2 Lutheran churches and one Baptist church.

He was baptized Lutheran on 29 Jun 1919 at home. He graduated in 1937 from North Charleston High School. He started working for the Charleston Naval Shipyard in 1937. He was a pipefitter. He retired on 30 May 1974.

He graduated in 1971 from St. John's High School on John's Island, Charleston, South Carolina. He served in the U. S. Navy from Sep 1970 - May 1987, communications expert, First Class Petty Officer, stationed in Key West, FL, Norfolk, VA, Charleston, SC, Naples, Italy, and Mayport, Florida. He died on 17 May 1987 in the Persian Gulf. He was killed on board the USS Stark in the Persian Gulf by Exocet missiles fired by Iraqi warplanes.
