Stephen PAINE



Came to New England on the ship "Dilligent, of Ipswich" in 1638. They settled first in Higham, MA and then on to Rehoboth, MA.

STEPHEN PAINE (2), was born in Norfolk County, England, in 1629. He emigrated to Hingham, Massachusetts Bay, with his parents, in the ship "Diligent" in 1638, and then to Rehobeth in 1643. Stephen served under Major John Bradford in King Philip's War in 1675. He was a tanner by occupation and was active in town affairs.

On November 3, 1652, Stephen married Ann Checkering (1616), the daughter of Francis and Ann (Fiske) Chickering, on November 3, 1652; and she bore him nine children. He died intestate at Rehobeth, where he was buried on January 24, 1677/8. The inventory of his estate, dated Nay 16, 1678, was valued at L585-10s-11d.

Marriage to Lucy Fay on Oct 27, ---- was found in "The History of Chesterfield N.H." Marriage to Widow Baldwin was found in "The History of Chesterfield N.H." His will was proved on Oct. 9, 1807 in which it mentions his son Austin Farr.
